While no one can replace the French Connection, the Kid Line may become the next great trio of forwards in Buffalo Sabres history.
They are calling Dylan Cozens, J.J. Peterka, and Jack Quinn the Kid Line. And although it’s more than farfetched to predict whether they will become an elite group, we can use some logic here to make an early prediction.
For one, if they remain playing alongside one another long-term, we will need to eventually change the name since they won’t be 21 forever. Something like the Tenacious Trio sounds more accurate, given Cozens’ and Peterka’s respective playing styles, and perhaps Quinn will follow suit in time.
This line, in 24 games, has a total of 45 points, 19 goals, and 26 assists. They have fewer than four seasons of combined NHL experience, and as mentioned, they are all just 21, meaning there is still a lot of room for growth.
Buffalo Sabres may have more than a tenacious trio in the Kid Line
If the trio of Cozens, Peterka, and Quinn stay healthy and stick together, expect them to evolve into one of the league’s better lines. Some in fan forums are already saying they already are, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves; they’ve only been playing together for a few short weeks.
The more they line up alongside one another, and that appears to be the case tonight and in the near future, the better they will get. You can expect more scoring output, and given Cozens’ and Peterka’s physical natures, especially along the boards, the Sabres will also improve defensively.
Overall, I’m going to say the Kid Line does become the Buffalo Sabres next great trio. Not that you will rank them among the best in franchise history, but I can see them developing into something of the type of line you see on championship-caliber teams if the Blue and Gold’s brass is smart and keeps everything I mentioned above, plus the current system and regime in place.
