You can make that one of many career accolades for Dylan Cozens, as the Buffalo Sabres forward was recently awarded the Second Star.

Dylan Cozens has been tasked with one of the toughest jobs in the NHL this season. Head coach Don Granato and company have entrusted the 21-year-old center with leading and mentoring a line comprising rookies J.J. Peterka and Jack Quinn.

And so far, Cozens has exceeded anyone’s wildest expectations when leading the rookie duo, who might just become dynamic, themselves. While he has been remarkable this season, Cozens seemed to have taken things up a notch this past week. Let’s check out what made him deserving of the Second Star Award.

Buffalo Sabres forward Dylan Cozens deserved Second Star

Cozens went on a scoring spree, knocking down nine points, four goals, and five assists, leading the red hot Kid Line and multiple scoring frenzies. He also scored three points on two occasions. And I think I may have predicted Cozens would knock down multiple points in multiple outings in last week’s bold prediction article.

Looking at the way Cozens and the Kid Line have grown this season, I knew he was due for a big week. And since only Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl scored more as November waned and December was born, Cozens was definitely more than deserving of the award.

Now the question bodes: Can he keep up this high-octane pace? My logical prediction is that yes, Cozens will, and so will Quinn and Peterka. One reason stems from the fact this line is so young, with all three youngsters at 21-years-old.

Another reason is that we already know how much damage Quinn and Peterka can evoke on opponents. Now with Cozens in the mix, this dynamic duo has become a tenacious trio. So organically, Cozens’ production will rise. Look for more weekly awards for Cozens in the near future, with Quinn and Peterka trailing not too far behind.
