The Buffalo Sabres skated into Columbus and laid a smackdown unlike any other on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in a 9-4 blowout.
The Buffalo Sabres look ready for their back to back against the Pittsburgh Penguins, given the way they played the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. By the end of the second period, the Blue and Gold were up 9-2, and it was over, all over, leaving the Jackets with a chance to make the score a little more respectable.
And I’ll tell you what: The Sabres have an MVP-caliber player in Tage Thompson if they can string together consistent wins. So far this season, Tage has 21 goals, 19 assists, and 40 total points in just 26 games, putting him on pace for a ridiculous 126 points if he keeps up his high-scoring ways.
Unbelievable, to say the least. But Tage isn’t the only player who impressed tonight. Dylan Cozens, leader of the Kid Line, was at it again, knocking down three points (1+2). Jeff Skinner joined in on the fun, with four assists. Rasmus Dahlin had three points (1+2), while Alex Tuch had four (1+3).
Buffalo Sabres top lines have this team among the NHL’s best in scoring
Yeah, I just said “Buffalo Sabres,” and “NHL’s best” in the same sentence, because through 26 games, the Blue and Gold have an astounding 105 goals, good for 4.03 per game. And best yet, they have, lately, been beating up on teams that they should beat.
Teams like the Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, and the Jackets. Once this team figures things out defensively and in the net, whew, they are going to be more than just a fun team to watch in the regular season. When that day comes, we will be talking playoffs.
Overall, the Sabres couldn’t have looked better offensively in their big win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. And the goal-scoring frenzy foreshadows something remarkable brewing in the Queen City. It is a great time to be a Buffalo Sabres fan.
