Tage Thompson is the latest member of the Buffalo Sabres to enjoy a Star of the Week honor from the NHL, mainly for his efforts last Wednesday.

It isn’t every day that you see a player score five goals in a game, and Tage Thompson did just that during the Buffalo Sabres epic 9-4 win last Wednesday over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Over three games last week, Tage had an amazing seven points, with six coming in the win over Columbus.

The Blue and Gold’s list of stars keeps growing, as Rasmus Dahlin won First Star back in Week 1, and Dylan Cozens recently took his own Second Star Award. While the Sabres are young, inexperienced, and a team that loses more than they win, having three players take these honors provides yet even more proof that this team is indeed heading in the right direction.

Buffalo Sabres are a budding group of stars

This year, we have seen ups and downs, and more downs than ups since November 2nd. But Tage has been one of the few constants. He’s had six points in multiple games this season, and his 41 points in 28 outings puts him on pace for 120 this year, which would place him into a rare club of former Buffalo Sabres.

Cozens has also broken out, with 27 points in 28 games. And he has also been tasked with leading a line comprising two rookies in Jack Quinn and J.J. Peterka. The line, known as the Kid Line, has made more strides than any other on the team during the early-to-mid stages of the 2022-23 NHL Season.

Now, we’re going to sit back and wonder, “who’s next,” in what is becoming a long line of Buffalo Sabres to receive an award this season. I wouldn’t doubt, Dahlin, Cozens, and Tage will win more weekly awards, or that a few others in the lineup will snatch something sooner than later.
