The Buffalo Sabres kick off Week 11 on Tuesday, December 27th against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Let’s check out what kind of challenges they will face.
Well, the Buffalo Sabres only had one game last week and that was their fourth straight victory. This one came against the Vegas Golden Knights. Because of the blizzard that is hitting Buffalo right now, the NHL decided on Wednesday to postpone the game that would have taken place last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning to March 4th.
Looking ahead to next week after the Christmas break, Buffalo will have three games to close out the month of December. They will face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Detroit on Thursday and will face the Bruins for a New Year’s Eve matinee.
The last time Buffalo faced Columbus, they absolutely obliterated the Blue Jackets. The Sabres scored six goals in the first period and would go on to win the game 9-4. Tage Thompson had another incredible performance as he would score five of those nine goals in the victory.
Even though Columbus is having a down year, I’m sure they would love to avenge the Sabres for the beat down that took place. You can never take any team lightly, and if Buffalo can play the way they have been the last few weeks, then they can keep the winning streak alive.
Buffalo Sabres could extend winning streak to end of December
After the Jackets game, Buffalo will play their last home game of 2022 as they will host the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night. Buffalo has seen Detroit twice this season and the Sabres have won both games. In a tough division, both the Sabres and Red Wings are having good seasons so far and are very close in the standings.
To wrap up the 2022 portion, Buffalo will head to Boston on New Year’s Eve for an afternoon tilt against the Bruins. I am very much looking forward to this matchup. Boston is the best team in the league and will present a huge challenge for the Sabres.
This is a perfect measuring stick game for Buffalo. They have had other games against playoff contenders and have done well, win or lose. However, the Bruins have been a thorn in the side of Buffalo for a few years now, so I’m looking forward to this game. If the Sabres could somehow win, it would be a huge confidence booster for the club.
