Are postponements coming at a bad time for the Buffalo Sabres?

The Buffalo Sabres have had a couple of games postponed. Are these recent delays a good thing or a bad thing for the Blue and Gold?

The Buffalo Sabres are currently on a four game winning streak but unfortunately for the team, the league had to postpone two games because of a blizzard that has hit Buffalo and the surrounding towns. With that being said, are these postponements coming at a good time or a bad time for the Sabres?

Let’s start with why it’s bad timing. Most importantly, these cancellations ruin all the momentum. During this four game winning streak, Buffalo just defeated two good teams in Colorado and Vegas. No matter what sport you play, when you’re winning, you just want to keep on playing and extend the winning streak.

When it comes to a team perspective, the Sabres were four points out of a playoff spot before their first postponed game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now, they are eight points out. With this second postponed game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, those eight points could go up depending on the results.

I know each game will be made up in the future but it’s unfortunate these game cancellations came at a time where the team was rolling.

Why recent postponements could be good for the Buffalo Sabres

Let’s talk about why it’s a good thing for the team. The most important thing, the team has been dealing with injuries all season. Most recently, Owen Power went down and you can tell how much they miss him. Buffalo also does not have Eric Comrie, but he is working his way back.

We all know how long the NHL season is, so it helps to give yourself a break and recover from the grind that is the 82 game season. Even though the momentum has stopped, it gives the players a chance to reset and focus on the next few months of the season.

If you ask me, I’m 50/50 on this topic. Even though it would be nice for the team to keep up the momentum, it allows players to rest up and potentially have injured players come back. As of now, the Sabres next game would be Thursday night at home against the Detroit Red Wings.
