The Buffalo Sabres have seen their previous two games postponed thanks to a once-in-a-generation storm. But such luck grants them opportunity.

In reality, there is no guarantee that the Buffalo Sabres will play on Thursday night, though temps look like they will be in the 40s during the day tomorrow, which gives us hope the Blue and Gold will take the ice once more and hopefully return to their winning ways.

But a lack of practice reps and games over the past week might mean the Sabres return to the ice rustier than they were in November 2022 and end up losing big to the Yzerman-built Red Wings. Or, gasp, this game is also postponed and they’re forced to return to the ice against the Boston Bruins.

Either way, it also gives the Sabres a huge opportunity. One that states, regardless of what the forces of nature do to this city and this team, they can rise up and overcome the challenge. And that would make for some satisfying evenings in the near future, starting, hopefully, tomorrow night.

Buffalo Sabres have a rare opportunity against Detroit (or Boston)

Let’s face it: The Sabres are one of the NHL’s most snake-bitten franchises. That said, it’s easy to see why many in their circles see this as yet another curse for the organization. Just when they are starting to win consistently, Mother Nature once again exerts their dominance over this hardluck team.

But let’s not view it as such. Instead, let’s take the high road and call this one an opportunity for the Blue and Gold to once again rise to adversity, face the latest obstacle in their path, and overcome it.

It’s not like they haven’t been on the receiving end of bad luck this season. They have seen stagnant play at goaltender and two rashes of injuries in the defensive rotation. Yet, here they stand, in contention for the wild card as we approach midseason.

So when I look at the current situation, I’m saying, “This isn’t hard luck, but an opportunity to show the NHL world what the Buffalo Sabres are capable of overcoming.” Here’s to hoping the Blue and Gold also see it this way.
