It took 10 days, but fans of the Buffalo Sabres will see their team return to the ice in a pivotal Atlantic Division matchup tonight.

The Buffalo Sabres are finally back in action following a 10 day layoff, but they will be back in action tonight at the KeyBank Center against their Atlantic Division rival, the Detroit Red Wings. Some believe the Sabres have a disadvantage here because of the layoff, but 10 days gives them enough time to be more than well-rested without losing too much polish to their game.

That said, the Blue and Gold might surprise you in tonight’s contest. But what are the odds saying? Keep reading to see what they got the Sabres doing.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Red Wings – Odds

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are -1.5 favorites at home against the Red Wings. The Over/Under is 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is -160. The Red Wings moneyline is +132.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Red Wings – Prediction

While the Sabres may historically look rusty following such long layovers, don’t be surprised if they find a way to win this one. Buffalo basically enjoyed a mini bye week since December 19th, and this disruption in play wasn’t nearly long enough for them to be so rusty. Instead, expect the Blue and Gold to take the ice as a healthier bunch that barely lost a step.

I am expecting the same high-octane Sabres from the get-go in this one, putting up at least a goal in the first period, before Tage Thompson and Company keep their foot on the throttle. Buffalo has scored at least five goals in both games they played against Detroit this season, and they will score five more goals tonight. Therefore, I’m saying the Sabres take it, 5-3.

This will serve as a major boost for the Blue and Gold, as they got the Boston Bruins coming up for yet another important game this Saturday. Let’s see if they can bring in the New Year on a high note.
