The Buffalo Sabres have shown time and again over the past week that they just don’t give up. We saw it happen once again against Minnesota.
I’ll tell you this: Adversity just does not affect the Buffalo Sabres. Once again, the Blue and Gold looked finished, as it appeared everything they tried sending at veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury wouldn’t find twine.
Then Rasmus Dahlin scored his second goal of the night, sending the game into overtime and guaranteeing the Sabres at least a point for the evening. Following the first four and a half minutes of a feisty overtime, Peyton Krebs found Victor Olofsson, who also found the back of the net for the second time tonight, ending the game in a 6-5 thriller.
This makes it three of the last four games the Blue and Gold looked down and out against one of the NHL’s better teams. And in those three games, they found themselves behind the eight-ball, only to find a way to battle back in the closing minutes and take an overtime win.
Buffalo Sabres have proven to be the NHL’s most resilient team
In the instant classic against Boston last week, the Sabres had to fend off a five-on-three power play to even stand a chance of tying the game. They ended up doing just that, then won in overtime.
Following a loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Sabres traveled to the nation’s capital to face Washington, and pulled off their most emotional win of the year in yet another thriller. Finally, we had tonight’s big win over the Minnesota Wild, and it showed us that the Sabres are more than just a team that doesn’t give in.
They have also shown us that yes, they are ready to defeat true playoff contenders. Sure, they may find themselves on the ropes more times than not. But who cares? The league’s youngest team finds ways to win. And if they keep this up, they will be in playoff contention for the long haul.
