The Buffalo Sabres played their worst game of the season in last night’s shutout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, so an opportunity awaits them.

No one thought the Buffalo Sabres would go out and lay an egg like that against one of the league’s worst teams in the Philadelphia Flyers. I get that these things happen, but when you’re a team turning the corner like the Blue and Gold, you don’t suffer through shutout losses to bad hockey teams.

But it is what it is, and the Sabres are in no position to get down on themselves for the loss. This team is on a back-to-back with the Seattle Kraken of all teams coming to town, and if you know anything about their short history in facing the Kraken, it’s not a good one.

So far, the Sabres are 0-3 against Seattle, and coming off of a big loss to the Flyers, they have an opportunity to make last night’s game nothing more than a tiny blemish on what has otherwise been a good season. This is also a good test for the young Sabres.

Buffalo Sabres can stun the Seattle Kraken tonight

Recent history is on the Sabres side here. They pulled off the unthinkable against the Boston Bruins just a week and a half ago. The Bruins, as you know, dominated the Sabres over the last half-decade. Yet, when it seemed as though Buffalo was about to lose yet another game against the NHL’s best team, they held their own and ended up taking it in overtime.

Flash back to December 2022, where the Sabres lost a heartbreaker to the Pittsburgh Penguins, then never seemed to be remotely in the following game against the Pens. In the subsequent contest against the Los Angeles Kings, it looked as though their scorers forgot to show. Then they found the back of the net six times in the third period.

This group has taken advantage of opportunities time and again this season. So to face a team they’ve never beaten following a 4-0 loss, it’s just another opportunity for this hockey team. They will bounce back.
