Don’t start panicking about the Buffalo Sabres just yet
The Buffalo Sabres are on a two game losing streak and fans are starting to panic, but we don’t need to be pushing the panic button just yet.
The start of this week has not been friendly to the Buffalo Sabres. After having a good first week in January, the Sabres have dropped two games in a row. They got shutout by the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night and just recently lost to the Seattle Kraken once again.
Even though the last two games resulted in losses, I’m starting to see some panic amongst the fanbase. Myself, I am slightly concerned but I am not ready to hit the panic button with the team’s recent struggles. I get it, two losses in a row can mess with your mind. But here are a couple of reasons why fans shouldn’t panic.
First and foremost, they showed some fight during the last two games. When they got shutout by the Flyers, they had some great chances to score but goaltender Samuel Ersson was stellar. During the Kraken game, Buffalo was able to score and once again, they generated tons of chances.
Buffalo Sabres fans don’t need to panic just yet
It’s encouraging that they were better the other night and even though it’s frustrating to see them lose a couple of games in a row, this is one reason why fans shouldn’t be panicking. Another reason why I’m not starting to panic, the Sabres will be getting back Ukko Pekka Luukkonen soon.
He was supposed to start against Seattle the other night but he unfortunately fell ill which caused Eric Comrie to start. Even though Comrie could’ve had some of the goals scored by the Kraken, Buffalo’s defense didn’t help him out at times.
I personally believe the team performs better when UPL is in net. I don’t know why that’s the case but they look like a better team when Ukko is between the pipes. Luukkonen does give them the best chance to win when he’s playing so hopefully he’ll be able to get back soon.
Those two reasons why fans should not panic about this two game skid. Once UPL is back, I see this team getting back to the team we saw during the first week of January. It won’t be easy as they will face Winnipeg tomorrow night and then Nashville on Saturday. But they have beaten better teams before, they can do it again.
