Will the Buffalo Sabres acquire a defenseman during the trade deadline? If so, here is some input from who the fans would like to see them acquire.
It’s another edition of Buffalo Sabres fan mailbag! The trade deadline is five weeks away which means we should see some teams making some deals in the next few weeks. Whether it’s a team selling or a team buying to improve their roster, it will be interesting to see what the next few weeks bring us.
As for the Buffalo Sabres, they are in the thick of things when it comes to trying and chase down a playoff spot. If there is one area where the team could improve, it’s on the blue line. So on this edition of Buffalo Sabres fan mailbag, I asked fans who is one defenseman that they would like the Sabres to bring in.
Cale Makar would be an amazing addition to the blue line. But unfortunately, he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
This is an interesting one. Radko Gudas is a tough player to play against and would bring a physical presence to the team. The 32-year-old has two goals and six assists in 40 games played with the Florida Panthers this season. He won’t be anything special but like I said, he would bring physicality on the blue line.
Speaking of physicality, that’s exactly what Luke Schenn would bring. At 33 years old, Schenn scored two goals and registered 14 assists in 48 games played this season with the Vancouver Canucks. Just like Gudas, he’s an aging defenseman but will bring leadership and physicality to the Sabres.
Which defenseman would fans like to see join the Buffalo Sabres?
I want to focus on two players from this response, Connor Murphy and Rasmus Andersson. Even though Murphy doesn’t produce a lot offensively, he is a big body. His 6’4″ and 212 pound body would be a nice piece to have. As for Andersson, he would be a better get in my opinion.
Not only is he only 25 years old, but he has seven goals and 26 assists in 48 games played with the Calgary Flames this season. The only issue, would the Flames be willing to part ways with such a young talented defenseman? If Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams would be able to acquire Andersson, then I would be thrilled.
Last but not least and to no surprise, Jakob Chychrun is on a lot of teams radars. I think Sabres fans would be thrilled if Chychrun ended up on Buffalo, the question is what would it take to get him? There are rumblings that Arizona is looking for TWO first round picks for the defenseman.
Don’t get me wrong, having Jakob on the team would be awesome. But I don’t think I would be comfortable sending not one but two first round picks to get him.
