The Buffalo Sabres faced and beat the Minnesota Wild in a thriller earlier in January. Can they go on the road and beat them again?
The Buffalo Sabres are on a hot streak, having won five straight games as January 2023 comes to a close. Once again, it’s a far cry from last season, when they finished a measly 4-6-2. Ironic, right, that the Blue and Gold won more games within 10 days this year than they did in the entire month just 365 days ago.
Anyway, let’s talk about the present. Can the Sabres turn that five-game streak into a six-game streak? At 10-1-1 on the road against the West this season, I wouldn’t put it past them. But let’s check out the odds and finish up with a prediction.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Wild Odds – Game 49
Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are +1.5 underdogs on the road against the Wild. The Over/Under is 6.5 and the Sabres moneyline is +150. The Wild’s moneyline is -182.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Wild Prediction – Game 49
With the Sabres on such a hot streak, it’s hard to pick against them. And the Wild are a team that has won just once in their previous four contests, meaning the Sabres could pull off yet another upset here.
Since January 19th, opponents outscored the Wild 16 to nine, and their only win in that span came in a shootout against the Philadelphia Flyers. So playing the high-octane Sabres will be problematic for Minnesota, especially when you consider how well Buffalo played the Western Conference on the road this year.
Therefore, I’m giving our Blue and Gold the edge in this one. While I’m anticipating a close contest, the Sabres are just too hot on the road to give this game up. They take it by a score of 6-3, and it will inch them ever so close to one of those wild card slots.
