The Buffalo Sabres head into their final game before the All-Star break against one of the NHL’s best teams, the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Buffalo Sabres regular season turns 50 games old today, and they can realistically head into the All-Star break slotted in one of the eight playoff spots. But the Carolina Hurricanes are a tough team, so it’s safe to say the Blue and Gold will have their work cut out for them.

Still though, win or lose tonight, I don’t think any of us could have predicted just how well this team fared over the first 49, soon to be 50, games of the year. The Sabres have exceeded some wild expectations, so I’ll be one to claim it’s more than possible that they win tonight.

But what do the odds say? Let’s check them out.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Hurricanes Odds – Game 50

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are +1.5 underdogs at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Over/Under is 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is +136. The Hurricanes moneyline is -164.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Hurricanes Prediction – Game 50

It seems as though the Hurricanes are the last team standing in terms of elite groups the Sabres haven’t yet defeated. Well, the Tampa Bay Lightning are an outlier, but then again, the Blue and Gold struggle against Florida teams.

But you get what I’m saying. Buffalo has beaten so many top-ranked units this year, with the most recent win coming against the Winnipeg Jets, that their odds of topping Carolina are pretty good.

The Hurricanes are on the same rung as Winnipeg. And if the Sabres have at least 17,000 fans rocking the KeyBank Center, I can see them taking this one.

Further, the Hurricanes are playing a road game in a back-to-back. And just before the All-Star break, that could spell good fortune for the Sabres. If Carolina isn’t at 100%, or if they’re thinking ahead to the nine-day break, the Blue and Gold can stifle the Canes.
