The Buffalo Sabres surged to back-to-back wins this past week against the Florida teams. Can they stay hot against the Capitals in a pivotal matchup?

The Buffalo Sabres stunned the NHL universe when they won in improbable fashion on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Then they went into Sunrise to square off against the Panthers, another thorn in their side, only for Craig Anderson to pull off one of the finest performances of his 20-year career.

And now, the Sabres have face another thorn in their side: Winning a home game, something they struggled at over the past year. As it stands, Buffalo is just 11-15-2 at the KeyBank Center, and the last time they played at home, the Toronto Maple Leafs embarrassed them within the game’s first 13 minutes.

Sad to say the least, since you couldn’t necessarily call it a ‘home game’ with the number of Leafs fans invading the place. But then again, the Sabres saw a nice turnout of their own fans against both Florida teams, so I guess it evens out.

Anyway, can they conquer their woes at home and beat the Washington Capitals? Here are the odds and a prediction.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Capitals Odds – Game 58

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are -1.5 favorites at home against the Capitals. The Over/Under is 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is -120. The moneyline for the Capitals is +100.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Capitals Prediction – Game 58

The Sabres have struggled at home more than almost any other team in the NHL. They are one of just 11 teams in the league with a losing record at home, and most of those teams aren’t in playoff contention, so it shows you just how dire the situation is.

Until the Blue and Gold find a way to win on their home ice, it’s hard to predict them to win anything. Our only hope is that the Capitals are a little exhausted after taking it to the New York Rangers yesterday. And if that’s the case, maybe the Sabres eek out a win here.

But I’m not getting too optimistic. The Caps win this one, and hopefully the Sabres earn a point by taking it into overtime.
