The Buffalo Sabres will seek to bounce back from an embarrassing loss against the worst team in the league by playing the NHL’s best.
Following an embarrassing loss at home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Buffalo Sabres seek redemption by traveling to Boston to face the NHL’s best team, the Bruins. And they’re going to need to figure out how to beat Boston without Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin.
Now for the good news: The Sabres have played well on the road all season, and they even beat Boston in a New Year’s Eve thriller. So honestly, if the Sabres overcame the odds again, it wouldn’t surprise me.
But it’s still farfetched to believe Buffalo will pull this out with two star players on the mend. How farfetched? Let’s check out the odds and make a prediction.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Bruins Odds – Game 60
Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are +1.5 underdogs on the road against the Bruins. The Over/Under is 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is +230. The Bruins moneyline is -285.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Bruins Prediction – Game 60
This one pits one of the best road teams in the league against the NHL’s best home team and best team overall. But with the Sabres rolling without Tuch and Dahlin, it’s hard to envision they win this one.
In a best-case scenario, Buffalo takes the game into overtime like they did in their previous matchup against Boston and gets a point here. Sure, Buffalo will have an undeniable sense of urgency thanks to how close the playoff race is, but coming into this game without Tuch and Dahlin is going to hurt, so I’m expecting a loss in this one.
Once again, it looks as though the Sabres will face some early month adversity, but once Dahlin returns to the lineup, those concerns should ease somewhat. Jack Quinn has stepped up and been effective on the first line in Tuch’s absence, and that will keep the Sabres afloat in the near future.
