The Buffalo Sabres are looking to stay alive in the playoffs for as long as they can, and two point vs. the Carolina Hurricanes would be huge.

The Buffalo Sabres are playing in their 78th game this season, and they are still mathematically in contention for the playoffs. It’s been a long time since we could say that, and with the Blue and Gold knowing this, it could give them just enough to beat one of the NHL’s best units.

But they need to make fewer errors in this one than they did in their win against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. When an opposing player passes the puck to a teammate, you need to get a stick on the puck. Or, if an opponent shoots it wide, let’s try not to have anything bounce off our leg and into the net.

Case in point, the Sabres need to play a near-perfect game if they plan on beating the Carolina Hurricanes. So what are the odds that they win this thing? Let’s dive in.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Hurricanes Odds – Game 78

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are +1.5 underdogs at home against the Hurricanes. The Over/Under is 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is +140. The Hurricanes moneyline is -170.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Hurricanes Prediction – Game 78

The Sabres can’t be making mistakes in this one, and they definitely can’t be giving up six goals vs. a team that’s allowed just 201 of them. Sure, Buffalo picked things up offensively on Thursday, but Carolina is second in the NHL in goals allowed; they aren’t scoring six (seven if you count the shootout) here.

They’re likely scoring something in the neighborhood of three goals against a team of this caliber, so if Buffalo allows six, this game will end in a blowout. The good news on this front? Carolina is 18th in goals scored.

But that doesn’t come without startling news – Buffalo has allowed 10 of those 251 goals the Hurricanes scored. If the Sabres allow another five today, chalk this one up as an L. And unfortunately, that’s where I’m saying it’s headed.
