In the next “How They Fared” article, we take a look at how well the Buffalo Sabres played against the Arizona Coyotes in 2022-23.
On the next edition of “How They Fared“, we take a look at the two games where the Buffalo Sabres faced the Arizona Coyotes. These two teams would see each other first in Buffalo back in November. The Coyotes were 4-6-1 going into the game while the Sabres were 7-5-0.
After having a very impressive start to the month of October, the Sabres won only one game out the four games they played to start November. Buffalo defeated Pittsburgh to start the month but after two straight losses to Carolina and Tampa Bay, the Sabres had a chance to rebound against a rebuilding Coyotes team in Buffalo.
The game didn’t start well for the Sabres as Arizona would score 23 seconds into the game. A few minutes later, Tage Thompson would tie the game up. It would not last long as the Coyotes would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
No scoring happened in the second period as Buffalo had 20 more minutes to turn it around. Unfortunately for the Sabres, that would not be the case as the Coyotes would score two more goals and win the game 4-1.
It was a very frustrating loss for Buffalo and they would go on to lose five more games before getting a victory. Losing eight games in a row is frustrating but losing to a rebuilding team at home is even more frustrating.
The Buffalo Sabres split with the Arizona Coyotes in 2022-23
These two teams met back up in Arizona as the Sabres were on a three game road trip in Colorado, Arizona and Vegas. This game would start off to a bad start for Buffalo once again as Shayne Gostisbehere would score the opening goal just about three minutes in the contest.
A couple of minutes later, Jeff Skinner would respond with a goal. Skinner would again even up the game after the Coyotes took the lead during the second period. With the score being 2-2 heading into the final period, it was all Buffalo as they would take the win by a final score of 5-2.
Even though the Sabres should have swept Arizona, at least they were able to split the series rather than being the ones who got swept.
