Brandon Biro has been one of the Buffalo Sabres best prospects since he signed. And he was also the Rochester Americans best forward.

The path to the NHL is already tough enough, but when you’re an undrafted free agent, your path gets even tougher. And that’s the case for Brandon Biro, who went undrafted before signing with the Buffalo Sabres. And he’s refused to look back ever since.

One of the best prospects on the Rochester Americans this past season, we didn’t see Biro in the Calder Cup Playoffs thanks to a season-ending injury. And while the Amerks fought their way to the North Division Final, it will always be a mystery of whether Biro would have helped them sneak past the Hershey Bears.

Nonetheless, you can expect Biro to be yet another name battling for a spot on the Sabres. And here are three reasons why he can make the roster.

Why Brandon Biro can make the Buffalo Sabres roster

1 – Productivity

While Lukas Rousek scored 56 points this past season and led the Amerks in the category, Biro took the title in points per game at 1.04, as he scored 51 in 49 contests, including 16 goals, 35 assists, and five power play goals. Biro also took 90 shots and logged a 17.8% shooting percentage.

2 – Consistency

When healthy, Biro was arguably the most consistent member of the Amerks offensively, and his 1.04 points per game shows that. If they want to earn a trip to the playoffs next season, the Buffalo Sabres need a player who can be consistent game in and game out, and Biro has shown he can do that.

We also saw these traits in full swing during the preseason last year. And if Biro can continue that trend when he returns from injury, expect him to be a serious contender to win a spot on the roster.

3 – Previous Consideration

If you remember correctly, Biro already made his NHL debut back in February 2022. That year, he logged 41 points in 48 contests with Rochester, and it was those efforts that landed him a cameo in Buffalo. He has only become a better hockey player since then, and such consideration from the same coaching staff in what will be two seasons ago will warrant him a long look, assuming he’s healthy enough to go in camp this year.

Overall, Biro is one of the better Sabres prospects out there. But thanks to both his lower-body injury and the emergence of rookies like Jiri Kulich, Tyson Kozak, Filip Cederqvist, and Isak Rosen, Biro often gets lost in the mix. However, if he ended up with the Blue and Gold next season in favor of the others, again, assuming he’s cleared to play, it shouldn’t surprise you.
