We’re taking a look at the two-game season series between the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings and what took place in both matchups.

On this edition of “How They Fared”, we take a look at how the Buffalo Sabres did against the Los Angeles Kings. The first of two meetings took place in Buffalo in December. When it comes to jersey matchups, it was a great one.

LA were wearing their away uniforms which are marvelous while Buffalo was rocking their black goathead alternate jerseys. As for the game itself, not much happened in the first two periods. In fact, it was 0-0 heading into the third period.

With two good offenses, it was surprising to see it turn into a goaltenders duel. Pheonix Copley and Craig Anderson shut the door for their respective teams and it was a scoreless up until the third period. In the final 20 minutes, it was all Buffalo.

Just about two minutes in, Tage Thompson would finally open the scoring to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead. Around the halfway point, Victor Olofsson made it 2-0 and then JJ Peterka made it 3-0 Buffalo 13 seconds later.

The Sabres capitalized on two straight power play goals thanks to Alex Tuch and Thompson before Peyton Krebs gave Buffalo the 6-0 lead. It was complete domination in the third period as the Sabres would cruise to a 6-0 victory.

Buffalo Sabres split season series with the Kings

Two months later, Buffalo and Los Angeles met up for the final time of the season in California. Just like in December, the first period had no scoring. The second period was a different story as it was all Kings.

Once the second period was over with, LA had a 4-0 lead. About five minutes into the third, they added on to make it 5-0. Despite scoring two goals, it was too little too late for the Sabres as they would lose the game 5-2.

The Kings are a very good hockey team so the fact that the Sabres were able to blow them out once is good. Unfortunately, Buffalo was not able to pull off the sweep.
