As it stands, the Buffalo Sabres have eight picks in the 2023 NHL Draft. Who will they choose and when over the next two days?

The Buffalo Sabres will add a plethora of defensemen to their prospects pool this week. So when you look at my seven-round mock, don’t be too alarmed at the vast number of blueliners dotting the eight picks listed below. I can also see the Blue and Gold taking more than one goaltender, given how thin they currently are in that area.

This particular mock draft worked much like my initial seven-round mock, where I used a simulator from FC Hockey to help dictate who I picked and when. While you will see some similarities between this mock and the one I concocted last week, there are still plenty of discrepancies, as I addressed the most pressing needs following the first round using a different strategy.

Will the Buffalo Sabres draft Quentin Musty?

Buffalo Sabres: Final seven-round mock

13th overall: Quentin Musty, Sudbury Wolves

Just like in my Mock Draft 3.0 and my previous seven-round mock, Quentin Musty lands with the Buffalo Sabres. Now that I have him destined to play in the Queen City across the last four mocks (and both seven-rounders), it’s safe to say I’ll be expecting Kevyn Adams and Company to be writing down Musty’s name on the draft card.

39th overall: Caden Price, D/Kelowna Rockets

In my previous mock, I had the Sabres landing Caden Price with the 45th overall pick. Though in this one, with Price ranked two slots higher from where he went, I erred on the side of caution and took him with the first of my two second rounders.

45th overall: Oliver Bonk, D/London Knights

I also took Bonk in my first mock, but with the 39th pick. With him ranked lower than Price, I simply flip-flopped the picks. Nonetheless, both prospects will add immediate help to the Blue and Gold’s defensive rotation.
