The Buffalo Sabres have extended qualifying offers. I broke down who got them and who didn’t, as well as an update on Tyson Jost.
June 30th was the day every NHL team had to extend qualifying offers. For the Buffalo Sabres, we found out who was given offers. As you can see below, Buffalo gave offers to Brett Murray and Linus Weissbach. The players who did not get offers were Tyson Jost, Kale Clague and Matej Pekar.
Murray scored 23 goals and registered 26 assists in 71 games played with the Rochester Americans while Weissbach scored 20 goals and recorded 27 assists in 69 games played. Pekar spent the majority of the season with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Buffalo’s former ECHL affiliate.
In the 28 games played with the Cyclones, he registered 13 goals and got 11 assists. Both Clague and Jost saw time with the Sabres. Clague had 4 points (all assists), in 44 games played with Buffalo.
Will the Buffalo Sabres end up retaining Tyson Jost?
After getting picked up off waivers from Minnesota, Jost became a key depth player for Buffalo. He scored seven goals and recorded 18 assists in 71 games played. His numbers were nothing eye popping but if you watched him, he was a solid player for the Sabres.
Despite Jost set to become a unrestricted free agent, Buffalo still hopes to get a deal done with Tyson to make sure he stays on the team.
I’m not the only one but it seems like a lot of Buffalo Sabres fans want Jost back. Like I just mentioned, he is a very solid depth guy and can play multiple key roles on the team. General manager Kevyn Adams has stated that they want Jost back on the team, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Update: Tyson Jost has signed with the Buffalo Sabres, bringing the former first round pick back on a one-year deal and adding much-needed depth to the forward rotation.
The NHL Draft is done, we’re now through with qualifying offers and buy outs. The real fun begins as free agency has kicked off. It will be very interesting to see what happens and I cannot wait to see what the offseason brings. Stay tuned to see what happens!
