What will Buffalo Sabres goaltenders Devon Levi’s, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s, and Eric Comrie’s workloads look like in 2023-24? Here’s a projection.

While nothing is set in stone, it seems like the Buffalo Sabres will be rolling with three goaltenders this season. Barring something crazy, Devon Levi, Ukko Pekka Luukkonen and Eric Comrie will be defending the pipes for the Sabres this year.

But how many games will each goaltender play? After what we saw last year, Levi played the best out of the three of them. With that being said, both UPL and Comrie had some good moments as well last season.

Projecting the Buffalo Sabres goaltenders’ workloads for 2023-24

  • Devon Levi: 35-40 Starts

I’m sure I’m not the only one but I see Levi getting the majority of the starts. In the small sample size was saw last season, Levi was very impressive. Even in his tough moments, he found a way to give Buffalo a chance to win in the midst of a playoff race.

  • Ukko Pekka Luukkonen: 25-30 Starts

After getting called up due to injuries, UPL started off very well for the Sabres. Just like Levi, Ukko stood on his head at times last year and was a huge reason why Buffalo won some games. Despite having a lead, the Sabres would give it up many times with bad defensive play, but UPL did his job.

However, he did struggle. Not all of it is his fault with the bad defensive play, but he did let in some bad goals. He also wasn’t impressive in the shootout but I think he has something to prove this season.

  • Eric Comrie: 10-15 Starts

Last but not least, Eric Comrie. When it comes to Eric, the fanbase is split on him. During the first part, he wasn’t good but he wasn’t bad. Again, he had a bad defense in front of him. Just like UPL, he could have had some goals back.

After coming back from his injury, he was pretty solid and unfortunately for him, it was at a bad time as the Sabres were rolling with Levi to try and get a playoff spot. Obviously these are just predictions and we’ll see what this season brings.

Injuries and performance will be a factor but not including those, I think Levi and UPL will be the tandem as Comrie will be thrown in every now and then. But again, we won’t find out until the season.
