Is an extension on its way for the Buffalo Sabres All-Star blueliner? One report states that could be the case in the near future.

Rasmus Dahlin will be due for a contract extension very soon. The Buffalo Sabres star defenseman has made it clear he wants to stay in Buffalo, and even though we don’t know when it will happen, we do know he will get a huge payday.

Dahlin had a career season last year in which he scored 15 goals and recorded 58 assists for 73 points in 78 games played. He is set to be a restricted free agent after this upcoming season, but I’m sure the Sabres will extend him before he reaches free agency.

So it begs the question: When will Rasmus get extended? According to a report, it could be happening very soon. Per After the Whistle, here is the latest from yesterday.

According to this report, it’s rumored that his extension will be for 8 years with an AAV of $10.5 million. Again, it’s a rumor so we don’t know if it’s true or not. If it is true, what a steal it would be for Buffalo but so deserving for Dahlin.

He’s only 23 years old, and has been improving year after year. If you ask me though, last season was who we really thought the player Buffalo was getting when they drafted him first overall in 2018.

The $10.5 million AAV makes sense for Dahlin. Last night, Jake Sanderson got an 8 year, $8.05 million extension after playing one season. While it set the bar for an Owen Power extension, Dahlin’s term will be higher.

Like I said earlier, he’s only 23 years old and will get even better as the years go along. $10.5 million is a great term for him, and I think fans will be absolutely thrilled if that is the case. Nothing is confirmed but I do hope this is the case. Rasmus is just getting started and if they could lock him up at that price, what a win for Dahlin and the Sabres.
