Moving onto the month of December 2023, I talk about why the Golden Knights matchup is the game I’m looking forward to for the Buffalo Sabres in the month.

Transitioning from November to December, it will be the final time we see the Buffalo Sabres in the year of 2023. Just like every month, there are some games that catch the eye. However, the game I’m looking forward to is on December 15th when they travel to Vegas.

There are a couple of reasons why I’m looking forward to this game. First, it’s another matchup against former Sabres captain Jack Eichel. I know there are fans who are tired of hearing about Eichel and the Sabres, but it’s just another game at the end of the day.

It will be the first time Buffalo sees the defending Stanley Cup champions. Whenever you are facing the champs, it always gives you some motivation. There’s that saying “In order to be the best, you have to beat the best.”

Buffalo Sabres-Golden Knights matchup should headline December slate

I’m not saying the Sabres will be the best team in the NHL, but it kinda leads me to my final point which is it will be a good measuring stick game for Buffalo. I have said it so many times in the past when talking about the Sabres this season where I think they will take the next step.

Not only are the Golden Knights the defending Cup champs, but they are arguably the best team in the NHL. Year in and year out, they make the postseason, and are a nightmare to play against. But if the Sabres are serious about making the postseason, they are going to need to beat good teams. While both of these fanbases will argue who won the Eichel trade, I know for a fact Buffalo will look to show they can be a good team.

What better way to prove yourself by going out on the road and beating the champs in their own building? Vegas is a tough place to play but the Sabres have won there before and hopefully they can do it again this year.
