Monday Night Football ended in the worst way possible for the Bills, but ironically enough, the Buffalo Sabres can avenge the loss in October.

The Buffalo Sabres received an extra incentive to beat the New York Rangers when the regular season begins on October 12th. Last night, their cousins down in Orchard Park traveled to MetLife Stadium and took on the New York Jets in a defensive struggle that gave us a bit of old school football (my favorite).

The Bills forced overtime, only to go three-and-out, which forced them to punt the ball back to the Jets. And this was when trouble started, as Jets returner Xavier Gibson took it back to the house, securing a walk-off win for the Jets.

Unfortunately, the Bills are starting things off with an 0-1 record, but the good news is there are still 16 games left to turn things around. And for the Sabres, it gives them even more motivation to skate onto the ice on October 12th and take one from the Jets cousins, something I previously projected in my Bold Predictions last month.

Buffalo Sabres have yet another reason to beat the Rangers on October 12th

There are so many reasons the Blue and Gold should be motivated for their showdown vs. the Rangers. For one, they have an opportunity to beat one of the NHL’s better teams on opening night, but we now know this is just the tip of a growing iceberg.

We will undoubtedly see more than a few tributes to the legendary Rick Jeanneret all season, and one will definitely occur on opening night. And now, the Sabres get to avenge the Bills Week 1 loss.

Last year, the Blue and Gold made a habit of winning games when something unfortunate occurred outside the world of hockey. So if there is one team in the NHL that I’m willing to trust with yet another tall task, it’s this young group in Western New York.

Sure, it would only be Game 1 of an 82-game slate, but it’s safe to assume that the City of Buffalo will be going wild if the Sabres take it. At the absolute least, expect a hard-fought game between two projected playoff contenders.
