2023-24 Prediction: Buffalo Sabres to have strong April?

So far in Sion’s 2023-24 predictions, the Buffalo Sabres amassed 90 points. Are they projected to finish strong in April 2024? Here is the breakdown.

After a projected struggle in the second half of March 2024, the Buffalo Sabres MUST turn things around in this scenario in April if they want to make the playoffs. But over the final month of the season in 2022 and 2023, the Blue and Gold did just that (sans the playoffs, obviously), so recent history is on this team’s side.

Once Buffalo takes the ice on April 2nd, they will have had two days off before facing the Washington Capitals. Buffalo takes it over Alex Ovechkin and the crew, before they face the Philadelphia Flyers at home on the fifth. Once again, the far superior Sabres take it, bringing their points total up to 94.

On the seventh, they will travel to the Motor City and face the Detroit Red Wings. Last year, Buffalo had Detroit’s number, and the same thing occurred in my projections this season, so chalk up another win and 96 points for Buffalo.

Buffalo Sabres will have a strong April 2024, which will push them into the playoffs

While they won’t beat the Dallas Stars on the road on the ninth, they will win their third home finale in a row with yet another win over the Capitals, giving them 98 points on the year. The Sabres play their second-to-last game on April 13th at the Panthers, and just like their finale last year against Florida, they will lose in a close one. However, I will give them an overtime loss here as the “playoff hockey” mentality for seeding will be on Buffalo’s minds.

The Blue and Gold will close out the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and this aging team will just be trying to preserve themselves for the playoffs. The Buffalo Sabres take the win, and finally, for the first time since 2009-10, the Blue and Gold will encroach 100 points, finishing with 101 total.
