Another day, another rumor. The Buffalo Sabres are interested in Patrick Kane. But will they sign him, or take a hard pass?

Stop me if you have heard this before, the Buffalo Sabres are linked to Patrick Kane. According to Darren Dreger, the Sabres have interest in the Buffalo native. Even though Kane is still recovering from an offseason surgery, it seems like he will be ready to go in a month.

I’m sure Sabres fans are really tired about this but it’s very intriguing knowing for a fact Buffalo is indeed interested. A report is one thing, but having it actually happening is another topic. So with that being said, I’m going to make a debate.

It won’t be one-sided, I will make an argument on both sides of the spectrum. The question I’m going to answer, will Patrick Kane be a Buffalo Sabre? Let’s start with why they SHOULD sign Kane.

Why the Buffalo Sabres should sign Patrick Kane

First and foremost, it would be cool to have the hometown kid. The first overall pick in 2007 has had an amazing career. He’s a three-time Stanley Cup champion, as well as a Conn Smythe winner, and an Art Ross Trophy winner. He has also won an MVP.

He would also be a good leader for this Sabres team. Buffalo was the youngest team in the NHL last season, and I think Kane can help out with not only his skill set but his leadership as well alongside a very good young team. He could be cheap as well with him being 34 years old.

Last year, he scored 21 goals and registered 36 assists in 73 games played combined with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers.

Why the Buffalo Sabres should not sign Kane

Now here’s why the Sabres SHOULD NOT sign Kane. With the surgery he got, there’s no guarantee he can help out statistically. Surgery can have some setbacks and even though he had solid stats, it’s not a guarantee it will work out.

Another reason why is the money situation. I know I mentioned he could be cheap but I’m going to contradict myself. With contract extensions coming up for Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power, money could be an issue.

It all depends on the player but with the loaded talent they have, it might be tough to bring a player like Kane in.

At the end of the day, this is what I think. To be honest with you, I’m not sure if Buffalo will sign him. I won’t be mad if they do bring in Pat, it would be a cool story. But at the same time, I’m honestly not sure if it will happen.

light. Related Story. Will the Buffalo Sabres seriously consider trading for Trevor Zegras?

Only time will tell but I think you can make an argument for either side and I’m very interested in what Sabres fans think about Dreger’s report.
