Last night, there was a source that said the Buffalo Sabres are looking at Trevor Zegras. Here is a breakdown of that report.

Remember when there was talk about Jason Robertson possibly being traded to the Buffalo Sabres last year? Well, we have another talented player rumored going to the Sabres. Last night, Renaud Lavoie shared a story.

Renaud is a hockey reporter from TVA Sports, a Quebec sports station. To sum up the story, it’s pretty much the Sabres should trade for Trevor Zegras if they want to make the playoffs. Well…that’s quite a bombshell.

Now before we all freak out about this, let me give you my thoughts on this situation. First and foremost, I totally disagree with the story about Buffalo trading for Zegras to make the playoffs. Going back to last season, the Sabres offense was their strength.

They were a top ten offense and a force. Don’t get me wrong, Zegras is a good player. But with the amount of forwards Buffalo has, I don’t think they should be that desperate to go after a player like Zegras.

The Buffalo Sabres do not need Trevor Zegras to make the playoffs

Last year with Anaheim, he scored 23 goals and registered 42 assists in 81 games played. Pretty good stats for being on a rebuilding team. However, the Sabres are loaded with forwards on the roster and in the farm system.

Every Sabres fan knows that the forwards were not the weaknesses for the team last season. Zegras is due for a contract but seems hesitant to sign another deal with Anaheim. Again, I don’t think it’s a necessity to go after a player like Zegras to try and make the postseason.

So to wrap it up, do I think Buffalo will trade for Trevor? No, I don’t think they will. He will not be the reason why the Sabres make the playoffs. Plus if you want to trade for him, you’re going to have to do a sign and trade.

With Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power due for extensions, I don’t think it will happen. You can obviously move pieces but that money should be saved for other key players in the future. Would I be okay with landing a talented player like Zegras? Yes, absolutely. Do I think it will happen and if it’s necessary? Nope.
