Here it is, the breakdown on the Buffalo Sabres opening week as they kick off the 2023-24 regular season this Thursday night!

Well, Blue and Gold fans, we made it. The NHL’s 2023-2024 regular season will be starting in two days. As for the Buffalo Sabres, they will have to wait four days to start the season. With the season getting underway, I thought I would start a new series.

At the end of each week, I will give you a breakdown of the upcoming week for the Sabres. Whether it’s opponents, team news, or something else, weekly articles will be published. So with that being said, let’s get started.

This week, Buffalo will have two games. I guess you can say it’s an all New York State series as they will host the New York Rangers on Thursday night and then will go out onto the road to take on the New York Islanders Saturday night.

In three games we saw between the Sabres and Rangers last season, all games were decided in extra time. All games were entertaining as both teams gave us a show. The Rangers will pose a good challenge for the Sabres in their home opener.

Buffalo Sabres will play Rangers, Islanders to kick off the 2023-24 season

New York finished third in the Metropolitan Division as they finished with a record of 47-22-13. I expect this game to be a battle and it will be a great test for Buffalo at home. A couple of days later, the Sabres will head out on the road to play against the other New York team.

The Islanders and Sabres were in the midst of battling for a playoff spot last season but New York finished in the first wild card spot with a record of 42-31-9. Buffalo won two out of three games against both New York teams so we will see what this season brings.

I don’t know about you but I cannot wait for the season to start. It’s crazy how fast the offseason went by but we are so close to the Sabres being back.
