Despite the early-season struggles, Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams remains confident in the current state of the team.

Regardless of the disappointment we have expressed in the Buffalo Sabres so far in 2023-24, they aren’t playing half-bad overall given the tough early schedule, the fact that they didn’t get a real road trip in the entire first month, and the endless injuries. So for the team to be 10-10-2 and at 0.500 overall is more of an accomplishment for their sheer ability to stay afloat amidst the chaos.

Therefore, it’s not far-fetched to note that general manager Kevyn Adams is confident in the team. And the rest of us should follow suit if the Blue and Gold show consistency following what they did this past Monday against the New York Rangers. Check out Adams’ comments below:

"“I truly believe that if we consistently compete at a very high level, our talent will have an opportunity to come through. And I think you saw that the other night and two examples, one against Jersey where it wasn’t there and that’s what happens. And then, you know, 48 hours later, it was there and now you see us in tough building. It’s a tough team perform well. So that’s the next step for us.”"

Let’s be real: Even if the Sabres continue to be injury-riddled all season, if they play teams the same way they played the Rangers on Monday, they will be one of the top eight groups in the Eastern Conference. Re-insert Tage Thompson, Jordan Greenway, and Jack Quinn back into the lineup, and there isn’t a single team in the league Buffalo can’t beat.

Buffalo Sabres general manager correct to express confidence in state of the team

While the Sabres couldn’t land Patrick Kane, it’s hardly a big deal. If the Kane from seasons ago when he still performed at a high level was available, we would all be singing a different tune. But the question is: Can this version of Patrick Kane return to being the player he was during his days with the Chicago Blackhawks?

That’s tough to say, and we won’t know until we see Kane in action over in Detroit. As for the Sabres, the most recent additions from Adams through the draft have performed well enough in the season’s early stages, like JJ Peterka and Zach Benson. Owen Power has been much better than many have given him credit for, and trade acquisition Alex Tuch has also been impressive following early struggles.

Following the Rangers game and the efficacy of Adams’ additions, the Buffalo Sabres still have issues, no doubt. But they showed us both on Monday and several times this year (like in their shutout win over the Colorado Avalanche) that they are a much better team than they have let on so far this season.
