The 2026 Winter Olympics are just around the corner in Milano and Cortina, Italy. Many Buffalo Sabres such as Devon Levi, Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch are looking to represent their countries this winter. Levi was a part of Team Canada in 2022.

The organization has several players who have made history at the Olympics.

Mike Ramsey (1980 United States)

He spent over 10 tens seasons representing Buffalo and was a four- time All-Star while playing with the Sabres. He like 20 other young men are best remembered for winning the Olympic gold at the Miracle on Ice in 1980. They defeated the Russians in the semifinal game en route to the gold medal at Lake Placid. Ramsey had two assists in the tournament.

Dominik Hasek (1998 Czech Republic)

Arguably the greatest goalie in Sabres history also led the Czech National Team to Olympic gold in 1998. He had a save percentage of .961 in the tournament. He stopped 20 shots in the gold medal game on the ice against Russia leading to 1-0 victory.

Ryan Miller (2010 United States)

MIller helped lead the United States to Olympic silver medal in 2010. He went 5-0-1 during the tournament and was instrumental in the United States medaling. He broke the Olympic record for GAA at 1.35 during the games. He was named MVP of the tournament.

Jordan Greenway (2018 United States)

Sometimes glory cant be measured by medaling. In 2018, Greenway (currently on the Sabres roster) made history that represents what the Olympics are about. He became the first African American named to an Olympic roster. He appeared in five games and scored one goal. The United States finished in seventh place.

Neither Thompson nor Tuch have not played in the Olympics prior. Other players on the Sabres roster that are in contention for a roster spot are Rasmus Dahlin (Sweden), Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Finland), Jiri Kulich (Czechia) and JJ Peterka (Germany).

These players can look at the players of the past who have represented both their organization and countries. The city of Buffalo is a prime spot for watching the NHL and world tournaments, and, to be certain, the Sabres faithful will be cheering on the Sabres in the Olympics.

The US men's team has not won Olympic gold since 1980 and the moment of the Miracle on Ice. If Thompson or Tuch are able to represent their country and bring about Olympic glory they will join the likes of Mike Ramsey.
