The Buffalo Sabres have had a disastrous start to the 2025-26 season as they are 0-3, have been outscored 10-2, and have had to deal with more than their fair share of injuries. There is no question that the Sabres need a little luck, and they got it in the first period against the Ottawa Senators.
In the first period, the Sabres went on the power play after Fabian Zetterlund was called for holding to give Buffalo the man advantage. Unfortunately, it hasn't been much of an advantage through the first three games as the Sabres were 0-for-11 on power plays this season.
However, in this power play, they looked much better as they were controlling the puck and getting some decent shots on net. It would be Jack Quinn though, who capitalized to give the Sabres their first power play goal of the season.
It wasn't the way anyone expected as Quinn took a shot that went high and over the net, but it would bounce off the glass and hit Leevi Merilainen in the back and roll into the net.

Buffalo Sabres might have gotten the break they finally need on the power play
There is no question that the Sabres were feeling the pressure with the way the season has started. They haven't been able to get much momentum in their favor, and in each game have fallen behind by one goal in the first period of each game before the Senators game.
The goal not only ends the discussion of when the power play will score, but it could also help a player like Jack Quinn get going. The former first-round pick has struggled and not made the impact the Sabres hoped he would.
It might end up being the break the Buffalo Sabres need to finally end their losing streak and get the first win of the season.
