Before the 2023/2024 regular season, the Buffalo Sabres have beaten every NHL team except for one, the Seattle Kraken. In their brief history, the Kraken have never lost to the Sabres. In the first matchup, Seattle beat the Sabres in Buffalo. They would conclude their season series in March, this time in Seattle.
The first period was entertaining, to say the least. In the first 20 minutes, there were five goals scored combined. 24 seconds in, Jordan Eberle made it 1-0 Kraken. Tage Thompson did not waste anytime however, as he tied the game up 25 seconds later.
A couple of minutes after Tage's goal, Jeff Skinner gave Buffalo the 2-1 lead. Thompson got his second point of the night on Alex Tuch's goal, making it 3-1 Sabres. Seattle had a power play, and they capitalized thanks to Matty Beniers as the score was 3-2 Buffalo after one period.
After an entertaining opening 20 minutes, Owen Power gave the Sabres their two goal lead back as it was 4-2. Just over a minute later, Skinner recorded his second goal of the game. In the third period, Jeff would score yet again, giving him the hat trick and the Sabres would finally beat the Kraken for the first time franchise history by a final score of 6-2.
With what transpired during the first period, I didn't know what to expect. Especially with the Kraken getting to a one goal deficit entering the second period. But Buffalo did not give up their lead and went on to finally beat Seattle in their home arena.
As for the reasoning behind this game being my favorite win, it was the first time the Sabres defeated the Kraken. It's always nice to get the first of anything out of the way. This series will conclude in the next article as I give you my favorite win from April.
