Buffalo linked to Logan Couture
There will be more and more rumors as the NHL trade deadline approaches, but it seems like the Buffalo Sabres are linked to another player. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, it sounds like Buffalo is linked to the San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture.
Couture is an interesting name for Buffalo to be linked to for a couple of reasons. Number one, he is a forward. While the Sabres scoring has been in a rut lately, the blue line is what Buffalo should focus on more in my opinion. Secondly, Logan is hurt. After missing the first half of the season with a lower-body injury, it seems like he has suffered a setback.
Logan only played in six games and registered one point before he had the setback. If you recall, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said he wants players who can help the team right now. We don't know how long Couture will be out, but it makes no sense to trade for a player who is hurt when you want to win now.
If you take a look at his stats when he's healthy, the Sharks captain has solid numbers. In 82 games played with San Jose last season, Couture scored 27 goals and registered 40 assists. Throughout his career, Logan has been a consistent and productive player.
While I don't think it makes sense to get him right now, I can see Buffalo trading for him in the offseason. With him being an older player, it would be a cheap price. I do think he could be a good depth piece as well as a leader for the Sabres, he is also almost two hours away from home as he grew up in Guelph, Ontario.
If you ask me, I don't think Buffalo should trade for a player who is out with an injury, depending on the amount of time he's out. With that being said, it would make a lot more sense if they traded for Logan during the offseason.
