Rumor mill: Buffalo is eyeing this Carolina Hurricanes player
With the 2024 NHL Draft two days away and free agency starting next week, the rumor mill is going to be off the charts for NHL teams. As for the Buffalo Sabres, it will be a crucial offseason. With the potential buyout of Jeff Skinner being reported, the Sabres are linked to a few notable free agents.
However, the fanbase is tired of seeing them being interested in players. It's time for actions speaking louder than words. Adding on to the Sabres rumor mill, Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas is linked to Buffalo according to Pierre LeBrun.
Taking a look at his stats, it could be a good pickup for the Sabres. In 77 games played with the Hurricanes last year, Necas had 24 goals and 29 assists. During the postseason, he scored four goals and recorded nine assists in the 11 games he played against the New York teams.
Not only can Martin score and produce offensively, but he also plays a position Buffalo is in need of, center. According to StatMuse, Necas won 34.1% of the draws he took in 2023/2024. Adams did say he is looking to add a center in the offseason, specifically on the third line. With Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens being the top two centers, Necas could be the perfect candidate for the third line center spot.
If the Sabres want Necas, they will have to trade for him. The center is a restricted free agent as his AAV is $3,000,000. Could the 11th overall pick be in play? Most likely. As in the tweet at the beginning, a potential trade could happen this Friday at the draft if Necas is dealt.
I know fans are sick of the rumors and want to see something happen, but if Adams trades for Necas, he could be a piece to ending the playoff drought.
