The Buffalo Sabres have had some incredible playoff goals, like Jason Pominville's short-handed overtime winner against the Senators, but nothing will compare to Brad May's goal in 1993 that is remembered as 'May Day'.

Beginning in 1988, the Sabres started a stretch where they made the playoffs eight straight seasons but the first five resulted in first-round exits. In three of those years, it would be the Boston Bruins that ended the Sabres' season.

In 1993, the Sabres once again faced off against the Boston Bruins to begin the playoffs. However, it was a very different result as the Sabres would sweep Boston to advance.

While it was a series sweep for Buffalo, it was a very close series as three of the four games would go to overtime.

May was not known for his goal-scoring as he had only 127 regular season goals in over 1,000 NHL games. However, in this game, he had a picture-perfect goal that would send the Sabres onto the next round.

It was a high-scoring game and would be tied at five at the end of regulation and it was really a team effort with four players scoring those five goals. In overtime, Pat LaFontaine controlled the puck at center ice and was able to send a great pass to May as he entered the zone.

May then made a beautiful move on Ray Bourque that sent him sliding into the boards before bringing the puck in front of the net and around Andy Moog for the goal. The goal is known as 'May Day' because of the great call by Rick Jeanneret.

The reason that this will go down as the greatest goal is what it meant for the franchise as it finally got them past the Boston Bruins and was the first time they got past the first round in a decade.
