The Buffalo Sabres will be heading into a crucial Game 6 on Saturday night against the Canadiens at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The Sabres are on the ropes, down 3-2 in their second-round series against the Habs. But that’s not stopping fans from going all-in on their beloved hometown team.

As a matter of fact, insider Elliotte Friedman underscored this attitude with a story. Friedman, during Friday’s edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, discussed how he ran into some Sabres fans following Game 5 on Thursday night in Buffalo.

Despite being evidently disappointed by the 6-3 loss, the fans looked squarely at Friedman and said, “We’ll see you on Monday for Game 7.”

That’s the optimism that has characterized Sabres fans throughout this rollercoaster of a season. The Buffalo faithful are not about to give up, no matter how tough the situation seems to be.

Of course, the Sabres will need to rally on the road to force a Game 7 on Monday night at the KeyBank Center.

But if there’s a team that can pull it off, it’s the Sabres. Anyone ready to give up on Buffalo should think twice before betting against them.

Sabres have already bounced back from tough loss once this postseason

The Sabres have already bounced back once from a tough loss this postseason. That loss was Game 5 against the Boston Bruins in the first round. With a chance to close out the series, the game went into overtime tied at one.

In overtime, the Bruins’ leading scorer, David Pastrnak, scored a gut-wrenching goal to end the game and send the series to Boston for Game 6.

The loss was especially painful because it happened at home. The Sabres had a chance to win the series in front of their fans, but couldn’t quite get it done. They did the next game.

It’s worth pointing out that a tough loss such as that 2-1 overtime defeat in Game 5 against the Bruins could have mentally derailed Buffalo. Instead, the Sabres regrouped and got a major victory.

They will need to do the same on Saturday night. They’ll need to put a crushing defeat behind them and focus on the next game. When you’re down 3-2, only the next game matters. Game 7 will take care of itself when it comes.

It’s only Game 6 that matters right now.

The Sabres have the skill and grit to force a Game 7. And with some of the most loyal fans behind them, the road ahead will be slightly easier.
