EMR: October
Ok, so here is my end of month report (EMR) for the Buffalo Sabres, and if things continue in this fashion, the outlook for the 2010-2011 season looks might bleak. We all knew at the start of the professional sports year in Buffalo that the Bills would be fighting the rest of the league off for the first overall pick in the entry draft – but who knew the Sabres might be in that running as well. Now don’t get me wrong, the Sabres have a longer season and are by far better than the worst team in the league [...]
Sabres vs Thrashers
Its Friday night in Atlanta, and the weather is agreeable. Its currently 62 degrees out. For people down South, its winter jackets and snow suits, but for true hockey cities, its shorts and barbecues. And that is one of the reasons why hockey is not catching on in these markets, no one wants to sit and watch a team for three hours indoors, especially when the team is not committed to winning. There was a reason why the original Atlanta hockey team only last eight years. So the Buffalo Sabres will be faced with playing in front of a crowd [...]
Grades are out and the Sabres are barely passing
Well, we’re 10 games into the season and I know many of you are panicking because of the Sabres’ inconsistent play. Lets just say I can’t blame you. Every game is like pulling teeth and soon enough we’re not going to have enough teeth to pull. Now, I figured this would be a good time to bring the Sabres to school and give a 10 game report card. I’m going to focus on all of the major areas: offense, defense and goaltending. Offense: Consistency, consistency, consistency– this is the major issue. Other than Derek Roy, the Sabres can’t find another [...]
MIA: Tim Connolly
Missing in Atlanta: Tim Conolly. The Sabres have made it to Atlanta to start preparing for Friday nights game against the Thrashers. Despite the fact that it is the Thrashers, the Buffalo Sabres need all of the practice they can get. Where is Tim Connolly? Not on the ice practicing, according to the Buffalo News and Jon Vogl. Niedermayer is back after celebrating the birth of his child; so Luke Adams, despite putting up better face off numbers than Tim Connolly has been sent back to Portland. Anyone in favor of replacing Tim Connolly with Luke Adams? At this point, [...]
Wacky Wednesday 10/27
The Portland Pirates recently held their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, where they wore some pretty amazing jersey’s, and extending their winning streak to 6 games! Our favorite Williamsville native had 36 games, to continue his brilliant play. Speaking of those amazing jerseys the Pirates are holding an auction for autographed game worn variants for the fans, check it out at portlandpirates.com. The Sabres called up Luke Adam for the game in Philly, he played 13 minutes or so, and had 2 shots and won 7 of his 8 faceoffs. He played three minutes more than Gerbe… if anyone was [...]
Sabres Gamenight: Philadelphia Flyers
The Buffalo Sabres look to continue their good play on the road tonight as they play the Flyers in Philadelphia. The Sabres lineup may be a little different, Mike Weber could still be in if captain Craig Rivet can’t go, and Luke Adam will make his regular season debut, as Rob Niedermayer did not make the trip – congratulations to him and his wife on the new edition to their family! The Sabres seem to be on track with their road game, having only lost once away from HSBC Arena. The Flyers are coming off a loss last night to [...]
Sabres Look For Win Number 3
Things are starting to look ugly in downtown Buffalo. Watching the game Friday night, it appeared that their were quite a few empty seats. Granted, we are still having somewhat agreeable weather so people might be taking advantage of that, but it might appear that the lack of movement this off season, coupled with the lack of winning at home (and away) this season, has started to take its toll on the home crowd in HSBC Arena. I talk about a few seats here and there like a bad thing – when it could be worse – we could be [...]
Sabres show life in empty Hot-lanta
Do I believe what my eyes saw? Yes everyone, I can actually tell you that last night’s game wasn’t a dream– the Sabres actually won. I guess maybe our beloved Buffalo Sabres were just a little shy around crowds. All it took for the Sabres to win was to play in nearly empty building. Oh and the most shy of them all, Thomas Vanek, finally broke out of his shell and scored his first goal! Alright, I’ll cut the blatant sarcasm. I really am happy that the Sabres won and I’m even happier to see Tyler Myers and Thomas Vanek [...]
Sabres Gamenight: Atlanta Thrashers
Everyone knows the Sabres are desperate for a win and hopefully they will find a way to get one tonight. Unfortunately, the Sabres have struggled to find wins against the Atlanta Thrashers. Last year the Sabres split the series against the Thrashers 2 to 2; however the Sabres needed extra time to sneak out their 2 victories. As I mentioned previously, lines are going to be shaken up to create more offensive depth. WGR550 reported yesterday that Ennis will be playing along side of Niedermayer and Grier to create a spark on offense. Although Niedermayer and Grier aren’t usually looked [...]
Wacky Wednesday
Welcome to Wacky Wednesday, a new weekly segment I am going to be doing. It will cover some quick hits from across the Sabres Universe, as well as the NHL and some more substantial rants and raves. So to start of this Wednesday… Matt Ellis is now that Captain of the Portland Pirates… in case anyone hadn’t heard, and with that they sit at the top of their division with 5 wins and 1 loss, which gives them 10 points making them tied with the Peoria Rivermen, for tops in the league. Mancari the big player who couldn’t, has 10 [...]
