Your Morning Sabres 1/31/11
What a wild All-Star weekend, no? Alright, I’m kidding. Personally, I watched very little of the game last night and shut the skills competition off once they started to do the “relay race”– or as I call it, practice. Despite my clear disdain for the All-Star weekend, I was still compelled to wait and watch to see what Tyler Ennis was going to compete in. First, I declared he must be doing the fastest skater. Tyler Ennis is prided for his quick skating ability– I was wrong. Then, I decided it’s obvious he must be doing the shootout, but again, [...]
Your Morning Sabres 1/28/11
Good morning Sabres fans and happy Friday! The All-Star weekend is upon us and well, I’ll be watching it out of pure need to watch hockey. However, I didn’t really want to talk to about the All-Star game. I wanted to talk about the recent Sabre to go from zero to hero nearly overnight. I hope you have guessed who I am going to say by now because it’s the scrappy Nathan Gerbe. After being called out for his lack of production and especially for his lack of goal scoring, Gerbe has recently been on a tear. It’s funny how [...]
Evening Daily Dasherboard 1/27/10
It has finally arrived! The NHL All-Star Weekend kicks off in less than 24 hours and I can personally give a you know what. Sure, the NHL tried to mix things up a bit and adopt a “draft” formality instead of the typical East vs West or North America vs The World. For that, I give the NHL props. But in hindsight, it’s just another waste-of-time exhibition game. The players are there to have a good time and deservedly so. But until the NHL can find a new event that will grab the attention of America, you can find me [...]
All Star Game Weekend
While the NHL doesn’t start it’s All Star Game festivities until tomorrow night, Fansided starts there’s tonight! Don’t miss out as me and Frank from The Rat Trick take on the roles of Staal and Lindstrom and have our own mock draft for the All Star Game on Rink Side Rants tonight at 9PM. The 58th Annual NHL All Star game kicks of Friday night as Staal and Lindstrom have their own fantasy draft to select players to their respective teams. After they finish drafting the All Stars, the rookies will be assigned to a team. On Saturday, the teams [...]
Your Morning Sabres 1/27/11
Good morning! I hope all of you are still warm and snug in your beds, but for us workin’ folk we’re off to the real world now. I quickly wanted to comment on the Sabres lack of representation in the All-Star weekend. Personally, I don’t feel like the Sabres got snubbed. I think Derek Roy would have probably gotten selected if it wasn’t for his untimely injury that has pretty much ruled him out for the rest of the season. The next possible candidate may have been Thomas Vanek. Vanek has been the team’s most consistent player, but he still [...]
What To Do With The Old Aud Space
If the Buffalo Sabres were smart, they would purchase from the city of Buffalo the plot of land that the Memorial Auditorium use to sit on. What could the Sabres do with that plot of land? I wasn’t sure of what I was thinking when the thought popped into my head, until I read this awesome poll/article from our very own Ben Sumner over at Capitals Outsider, where he asked Caps fans the best place to head before or after a Washington Capitals game. I think we can all agree that the pipe dream of Larry Quinn bringing Bass Pro [...]
Rushing to the Inevitable?
Much is being said about the Buffalo Sabres and a push to making the playoffs for the 2010-2011 campaign. The thing with sneaking into the playoffs is, despite the feel good cinderella stories, the highest seed to ever win a Stanley Cup has been the New Jersey Devils, and that was in a lockout year (fifth seed). Would you rather miss the playoffs for a better draft position, or have at least four more games to watch? I wouldn’t mind losing in the first round of the playoffs, if the team showed up and actually got beat, not like last [...]
Sabres Need OT to Beat Ottawa
It didn’t have to end the way it did. The Buffalo Sabres needed extra time to defeat a team that had only won once in their last twelve tries. It got to that point because the Buffalo Sabres sat back on a 2-1 lead for most of the game, letting the Ottawa Senators come back in front of a home crowd and force the extra period. Once again, the boys in Blue and Gold played down to their opponent, thankfully, this time it did not cost them two points. The brightest spot on the roster was playing in only his [...]
Your Morning Sabres
I’m back! Last night was the first game in two weeks I actually was able to watch and I was pretty happy with the results. Congratulations to Paul Byron on his first NHL goal and his second NHL point in as many games. Also, I guess congratulations are in order for Shoane Morrisonn on his first goal this season; albeit a defenseman, I was hoping his first goal wouldn’t come at the half-way point of the season. Hey, he still has one more than Rob Niedermayer. Speaking of Niedermayer, is the guy even on the team anymore? He’s such a [...]
