Well with only one game left in 2011, it’s time for some hockey resolutions. Healthy Sabres, a winning streak, new faces? It’s been a rough December for the Sabres, injuries have pleaged the team all year but December saw two key defenceman go down which has lead to a 4-7-2 record. Last nights loss to the Capitals was something Sabre fans have become accustom to this season, a strong game but not finding the back of the net, and yet another key guy going down due to injury. Tonight the Buffalo Sabres face off against the divisional rival Ottawa Senators.  The Buffalo Sabres have once again returned to their gambling ways with the fan base, wondering what team will show up, the offensively explosive team that strangles their opponents with a flury of goals, or the team that can’t find the back of the net, and allows their opponents to walk over them.  The game tonight brings back a little culture foot of Washington Street.  The building of First Niagara Center (initially as the Marine Midland Arena) saw the death of a tradition, that being the gala event [...]

Harry Neale summed it up best. “For the 2nd straight game…the Sabres were outshot, outworked, and outchanced.” The Buffalo Sabres lost 3-1 against the Washington Capitals tonight, and lost by the same exact score to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. They are now only a couple wins better than Eastern Conference bottom feeders Carolina, Tampa Bay, and the Islanders. With tonight’s loss, the Sabres have now only won 4 of their 13 December games.   Dear Time Warner, MSG, and Buffalo Sabres,  Loosen up, get back to basics, and keep it simple.  The average fan does not care about the excuses or politics behind why Time Warner and MSG are threatening to no longer show us Buffalo Sabres games. The blame game being displayed by both entities is, to be blunt, childish and pathetic. The scrolling message that MSG runs constantly at the bottom of the screen during the games is as equally annoying as the TWC commercials during breaks. The losing streak is over, and now the Buffalo Sabres look to string together a couple of victories.  In order to do that, they have to get two points in New Jersey as they visit the Devils.   This is the second meeting between these two teams, and the first one did not fair so well for the Sabres.  Losing 5-3 in that decision, the Sabres are going to have to put out the same offensive burst that they saw against the Washington Capitals.  The last time the Sabres were able to put back to back wins together was before their last [...]

Too be fair, the first period was one of the most exciting periods of hockey the Sabres have played all season. To use an old cliche– the Sabres were firing on all cylinders; however, after the first period, the Sabres recoiled into a defensive shell and really never came out of it. Buffalo, NY -  Christmas is over, but the Washington Capitals were in town Monday night hoping to leave a lump of coal in each of the Buffalo Sabres‘ stockings (hung over the fireplace in the Sabres’ new multi-million dollar dressing room, perhaps?). The Sabres, losers of three straight, were looking to turn that coal into cool diamonds, in front of a sold-out First Niagara Center crowd. From the drop of the puck, Buffalo’s transition game was too much for the Capitals, in Buffalo’s slump-busting 4-2 victory.

Christmas is over, and the Buffalo Sabres hope that Santa Claus has answered their letters and left a win in their stockings.  If that win is going to come, its going to come at home against the Washington Capitals.  Both teams are mired in a rut that has both teams on the outside of the top eight teams in the eastern conference.  The Washington Capitals are trying to recover from the Bruce Boudreau era, which saw a perennial powerhouse get knocked out of the playoffs early every year.  Dale Hunter is trying to change that mantra nad bring a Stanley [...]
