Some Sabres Sentiment With Eleven Games Left

facebooktwitterreddit

Speechless. Utter disappointment. Dumbfounded. Aghast. WTF?

1.9 seconds. You really couldn’t do much in 1.9 seconds, could you? Sneeze, perhaps. You can also go from being poised to win an important hockey game, to setting yourself up to lose the damn thing with 1.9 seconds left, which is what the Buffalo Sabres managed to accomplish last night. These are the types of games that come back to haunt a team in a tight playoff race looking for every point possible.

I don’t want to hear, “Well, at least they got a point”. No. They gave away a point. Instead of keeping pace with the Washington Capitals, who could be without star Alex Ovechkin due to injury, we may have jeopardized a playoff spot. With 11 games to go, it’s quite possible that the Sabres will have to win 8 of those. 8-3 the rest of the way? Good luck. They will also have to do it – at least for the next two games – without Tyler Myers, who was suspended for three games by NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Tuesday.

So with 11 games to go, here is what I’m thinking about our guys:

Jhonas Enroth: Great teammate. Biding his time.

Jordan Leopold: Your name on the Sabres Unsung Hero award.

Mike Weber: Dude, what is with that plus/minus? Glaring, to say the least.

Cody McCormick: Who? McMuscle has been McMissing. Move along, nothing to see here. (Kinda makes you pine for Adam Mair, doesn’t it?)

Derek Roy: hoping for the best finish to a season ever…to ramp up that trade value, Roy9er!

Christian Ehrhoff: We need that power-play to get going here.

Cody Hodgson: I know you’re on a new team, learning a new system, getting to know your teammates, and that you’ve probably logged about 15,000 miles of air travel in only a few weeks, but you’ve got to at least score a few goals. If nothing else, it gets the guy I work with – the one-man Zack Kassian fan club – off my back!

Drew Stafford: More of what we saw against Colorado, please. This is what we’ve expected all year, Rock God.

Brad Boyes: You still on this team? Wow.

Ville Leino: Your numbers at the end of the year will look pitiful, but I still believe.

Robyn Regehr: We need to find something to keep Father Time at bay here, for at least another season. The wheels don’t turn so smooth anymore.

Thomas Vanek: We all know you’re playing hurt, despite what Lindy says, because your team needs you. Here’s to you – hands down – the toughest guy on the team.

Jason Pominville: You’ve been there all year. But, now is when we need you the most.

Ryan Miller: Tough game against the ‘Lanche, but you’ve been the rock for weeks now. More of the same please.

Patrick Kaleta: I was never a fan until now. This year, you’ve proven your worth as an agitating defensive forward with great penalty-killing skills. With opportunity, I believe you’ve found your place.

Matt Ellis: A speedy recovery to Mr. All-out Effort.

Nathan Gerbe: I wish the output matched the input. You’d be a 50-goal man.

Andrej Sekera: See Roy, Derek.

Alexander Sulzer: Want to stay? Please?

Jochen Hecht: A terrible end to one of my favorite all-time Buffalo Sabres.

Tyler Myers: Too bad you don’t have a “cousin Eddie”. I bet you’d love to see Brendan Shanahan in your living room, in his pajamas…

Tyler Ennis: Did we really have our #1 center right here all along? (You still need to go get a couple more centermen, Darcy. Don’t think you’re off the hook).

Corey Tropp: @$#%$&*%&$!#@^! (That’s what the opposition must be saying after you’ve been bouncing around the ice like a cannonball for 45 seconds at a time).

Brayden McNabb: Myers and McNabb for the next decade. Oh, mama.

Marcus Foligno: That tribute to Dad made me misty-eyed. Welcome to the NHL, kid.
