Buffalo Sabres, Trade Deadline, NHL In Seattle

Good morning, Buffalo Sabres fans!

It’s another game day for the Buffalo Sabres, who are in New Jersey to face the Devils this evening in another nationally-televised game. There’s also just a few more weeks until the NHL trade deadline, which likely means we’ll see a lot more moves from Tim Murray in the coming weeks.

Last week, Murray traded away Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford and Jhonas Enroth, along with Rochester Americans forward Joel Armia and OHL prospect Brendan Lemieux. In return, Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane and Anders Lindback all became members of the Buffalo Sabres organization.

What will see in the coming weeks?

More from Sabres News

Stewart has been part of trade rumors for quite a while now, and it’ll be no shock when he’s eventually (likely) swapped out in the coming weeks. It seems like it’s more of a waiting game to see where he goes and what the return is, as opposed to just seeing if he’ll be traded.

But who else could be on the trading block for the Buffalo Sabres? [ESPN]

The Sabres are undoubtedly sellers heading into this year’s trade deadline. Murray already said he’s trying to move pieces for each upcoming UFA, so the next few weeks will be busy in Pegulaville.

How about Cody Hodgson? Matt Ellis? Tyson Strachan? Or any of the other pending UFAs? Patrick Kaleta‘s recent surgery will likely stifle any trade talks surrounding him, but looking even further to the future – would the Buffalo Sabres re-sign him in the summer? Will he find another NHL team to sign with if not?

Also in hockey news this morning, the folks over at The Hockey Writers take a look at 18 NHLers and where they could end up this trade deadline.

Chris Peters at CBC Sports also offers his own take on the upcoming trade deadline and possible targets.

Players they look at include Stewart, former Buffalo Sabres captain Daniel Briere, former Sabres blueliner Andrej Sekera and longtime NHLer Jaromir Jagr.

Looking ahead at this year’s trade deadline is fun — but now, a look back at past deadlines.

Bleacher Report takes a look at the best deadline-day pickups in each of the past 10 NHL seasons.

Included in the list: the Buffalo Sabres’ trade of Jiri Novotny and a draft pick for Dainius Zubrus and Timo Helbling.

Finally this morning, an editorial from The Seattle Times on bringing the NHL to the city. We always see lots of news stories or “official” reports about the potential of bringing the NHL to Seattle or other similar cities, but it’s interesting to get a look from someone who lives there and see things from that perspective.
