We have all the information you need for tonight’s matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals.

It feels great to be back! We made it to opening day for our beloved Buffalo Sabres. We open the season with a back-to-back against the Washington Capitals. If you haven’t already, check out our Capitals breakdown for this season here.

This will be both of these team’s first game of the season. It will be a tough test for the Sabres to open the season against such a quality opponent and a team that will surely be competing for the East Division title in the Washington Capitals.

Each team is dealing with a couple of injuries even though it is the first game of the season. The Capitals have listed goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and defenseman Michal Kempny on their IR. The Sabres have listed forward Kyle Okposo as OUT with an undisclosed injury, and forward Zemgus Girgensons is on IR after having surgery after injuring his leg in the team’s first scrimmage.

As far as players to watch, it is pretty obvious for the Capitals. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom have been one of the best duos in the NHL for the past handful of years. Other names to watch for the Capitals are newly acquired defenseman Zdeno Chara and former Sabre Conor Sheary.

For the Sabres, keep an eye on that new first line. It looks like it will be Jack Eichel, Taylor Hall, and Tage Thompson. It will be exciting to see Eichel and Hall gain chemistry this season, and Tage has put together a great camp and earned his spot at a potential first-line slot to start the season. It also seems that Jeff Skinner will be placed on the fourth-line, so keep an eye out for him and where he is placed to start the season.
