This past year we saw ads on NHL jerseys, specifically the helmets. The purpose of this was to generate some extra revenue that was going to be lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But starting in 2022, the Buffalo Sabres, along with the rest of the league, will be selling advertisement space on their jerseys.
Advertisement space has been made available in minor league hockey. Leagues like the AHL have allowed teams to sell ad space on their jerseys for years. NHL teams have also been featuring ad space on their practice jerseys since 2010. But 2022 will be the first time we will see ad space on the actual jerseys themselves being included during games.
Last year the Sabres ads on their helmets were KeyBank and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. KeyBank was featured on their home blue helmets, and Roswell Park was on the road white helmets.
It would make sense that the Sabres would include these two advertisements on their jerseys once the 2022 season rolls around. But there are plenty of other potential sponsors that could look good that are tied to Buffalo. Companies such as New Era, General Mills, and Perry’s Ice Cream could be some top candidates to be included on potential jersey ads if the Sabres move away from KeyBank and Roswell Park, but I feel that those two would make the most sense at the moment.
There will be no jersey ads for this upcoming season, so the Sabres have time to make a decision on who to include on their home and road sweaters come 2022. It will be interesting to see how the jerseys look with them, as NHL jerseys are some of the nicest looking jerseys in all of sports.
