The Buffalo Sabres have two prospects joining Team Canada for the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

While we won’t find any NHL talent in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, prospects Owen Power and Devon Levi will give Buffalo Sabres fans a reason to tune in. Despite the Sabres’ continual struggles on the ice, they have plenty of young talent at all levels in their system, with Power and Levi joining the party.

So how did the two Buffalo Sabres prospects earn their way into the Games? Keep reading.

Buffalo Sabres’ Power, Levi playing in the 2022 Winter Olympics

Owen Power

Power, who the Sabres drafted in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, is playing as advertised for the Michigan Wolverines. In 24 games, Power has logged 26 points, three goals, and just eight penalty minutes, showing off his discipline as one of college hockey’s best defensemen.

At 6’6, Power poses a towering presence. His size also does not draw back his skating ability, and his two-dozen assists show just how talented of a passer he is, especially in the short range. He also shows trust in his teammates, finding them without hesitation and allowing them to contribute to, or complete the play.

Devon Levi

Initially the Florida Panthers’ draft pick in the 7th round of the 2020 NHL Draft, the Sabres traded Sam Reinhart for Levi and a 2022 first-round pick. And while the Sabres have a few decent goalies in the system like Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Michael Houser, they’ve learned this season you can never have too many.

Enter Levi, who has become a breakout player for the NCAA’s Northeastern Huskies. In 24 games, Levi has an outstanding 1.55 goals allowed average, posting a win-loss record of 16-7-1, and a .948 save percentage.

Before his time at Northeastern, Levi spent time making highlight reel saves for the Canadian Under-20 team in 2020-21, posting a 6-1-0 record with a GAA of just 0.75. He posted three shootout wins, and had a save percentage of .964.

Power, Levi, and the Canadian National Men’s Ice Hockey Team face off with Germany at 8:10am EST on Thursday, February 10th. Sabres fans, the future is now!
