Grading the Buffalo Sabres Heritage Classic Jersey

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Sabres Heritage Classic Jersey leaked, and the team’s Twitter account later confirmed the jerseys as legit. 

The Buffalo Sabres already own one of the league’s best logos and color combinations with the flying buffalo above two crossing sabres. The royal blue and gold stands out, and while they have had other color combos throughout their existence from red and black in the 1990s and early-2000s to navy and gold, everything makes full circle.

Today, the Sabres have returned to a modernized version of their classic looks. And although they’ve lost more than they’ve won recently, the uniforms alone make them look good on the ice, regardless of the final score. And the Heritage Classic Jersey continues that trend.

Buffalo Sabres Heritage Classic Jersey is an instant classic

Enter the Heritage Classic Jersey, which is sure to become an instant classic among the Sabres faithful. Upon first glance, you wouldn’t find the Heritage Classic much different from the team’s actual jerseys, although there are stark differences upon closer inspection:

• The collar contains a thin, gold ring at the top, instead of solid blue.
• The flying buffalo boasts more realistic detail.
• The stripe pattern at the sleeves are gold-blue-white-blue-gold. The primary road jerseys comprise a blue-white-gold-white-blue pattern.
• The striping pattern toward the bottom of the Heritage Classic jersey is also gold-blue-white-blue-gold. On the traditional road jerseys, it’s gold-white-blue-white-gold.
• The shades of blue and gold are a tad lighter.
• A gold buffalo with a blue outline sits on the left shoulder.
• While it’s considered white, the jersey color itself is better described as cream.

Overall, the Sabres nailed it with their Heritage Classic Jersey. It boasts a traditional look and a classic cream color. The 2022 Heritage Classic takes place on March 13th when the Sabres take on the Maple Leafs at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.

Jersey Grade: A+: Sabres fans couldn’t ask for a better looking jersey, with a more realistic buffalo, brighter colors, and a cream background. This look will shine on the ice.
