Buffalo Sabres sixth-round pick is Rochester’s unsung hero
Buffalo Sabres prospect Lukas Rousek has turned into an unsung hero for the Rochester Americans throughout the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Here is one fun fact about Buffalo Sabres prospect Lukas Rousek. As of May 21st, 2022, he does not even have a Wikipedia page. Listen, I know people whose relatives have Wikipedia pages, which is kind of cool. But, if Rousek, a former sixth-round pick, continues his success with the Rochester Americans, you can expect him to get one in the near-future.
Rousek, who saw moderate success during his early career with Sparta Praha, didn’t exactly light up the AHL this season. He played in just 19 games, posting one goal and three assists for four total points. But his fortunes turned in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Buffalo Sabres prospect Lukas Rousek has been a revelation in Rochester
As I write this, Rousek is on a point streak, having tallied one goal and three assists over the past three games. Yeah, it took him just three contests in the series against the Utica Comets to match his overall point total this season.
He also had another assist earlier in the Utica series, plus a goal in Game One against the Belleville Senators. So early returns show us that Rousek is definitely worth keeping an eye on for the remainder of the AHL postseason.
And he’s worth following next year, especially as forwards like Jack Quinn, J.J. Peterka, and Peyton Krebs steal the show in the NHL.
What makes Rousek so intriguing beyond his recent stats? Speed and grit. Dobber Sports noted his aggression on the forecheck and his ability to outmaneuver opponents when in possession of the puck. He also has excellent on-ice awareness, which allows him to find open lanes faster than most teammates.
Overall, look for Rousek to continue playing at a high level during the postseason. And expect to see a massive jump in production when the 2022-23 season rolls around.
