The Buffalo Sabres haven’t done a lot in free agency despite having money to spend. But fans shouldn’t panic about the lack of signings.

It’s no secret that the Buffalo Sabres have tons of money to spend. When free agency started, the Sabres were in the top five when it came to the salary cap. According to Spotrac, the team has the second most cap space in the NHL, only behind Arizona.

A couple of months ago before free agency started, I wrote an article telling Sabres fans to not expect Buffalo to make a big splash in the offseason. There were fans who were saying stuff along the lines of, “what else is new?” and “same Sabres, different offseason.” That’s fair because fans want the team to get better. But there were other fans who agreed with me.

I want to reiterate something. Fans should not be freaking out with the lack of signings by the Buffalo Sabres in the offseason.

I believe the main reason why general manager Kevyn Adams didn’t make any big splashes is because he doesn’t want to ruin the chemistry with the current core of players. Adams brought in a goaltender and a defenseman, when it comes to the team itself, those are the only moves that are worth noting.

Trust me, I wanted them to make a big splash as well. But when I look at this current core of Sabres, I see potential. Under Don Granato, the team was competitive for the first time in a long time last year.

Keeping the chemistry is the main reason why I don’t think Adams signed any big named players. And even though fans want the team to get better, I can’t wait to see what next season brings. The Sabres are a fun team to watch and even though they didn’t land any eye popping free agents, fans shouldn’t worry. I truly do believe this team is good enough to make a push for a playoff spot.
