Owen Power is viewed as a generational talent. Could the Buffalo Sabres rookie live up to be as good as Cale Makar or even better?

Owen Power is one of the cornerstones on the Buffalo Sabres. In a small sample size last season, Power scored 2 goals and registered 1 assist in 8 games played. After having another great college season, the 2021 first overall pick signed his NHL contract and was thrown right into action.

In his minute sample size, the 19-year-old defenseman showed some promise in his speed, his shot, and his puck handling. It’s obviously a little too early to predict what he’s going to do after playing less than 10 games in the NHL but things are looking up for the stud defenseman.

Then there’s players like Cale Makar. The Stanley Cup winning defenseman is coming off an incredible season that saw him score 28 goals and 58 assists in 77 games played with the Colorado Avalanche. You read that right, a defenseman scored 28 goals.

Can Buffalo Sabres rookie Owen Power reach Cale Makar’s level?

A defenseman scoring 20 or more goals is unheard of nowadays in the NHL. With all of this being said, I know it’s EXTREMELY early to ask this question but I’m going to ask it anyways: Can Owen Power be on the same level as Cale Makar or be even better?

My opinion, Power can be viewed as a top defenseman just like Makar in a couple of seasons. Can he reach 20 goals or more? It’s possible. Power has amazing speed for a player his size and has an amazing shot. I know for a fact he can be a generational talent like Makar but can he put up numbers like Makar? That is to be determined.

When all is set and done, I see Power being one of the best defenseman in the league. He has the makings to be one and after the hype he has gotten, the Sabres could have two generational talents on the blue line with him and Rasmus Dahlin.

I’m not sure if Power can be better than Makar, not a lot of players can. But he could be in the same tier as him when it comes to be one of the best defenseman in the league.
